Legalities

In accordance with the Australian Marriage Act 1961, you need to:

Lodge a Notice of intended Marriage (NOIM) with your celebrant no more than 18 months and no less than one month and one day before the wedding date.

Provide evidence of age (birth certificate or passport) to show you are over the age of 18 and legally able to consent to marriage.

If previously married, provide evidence that you are now legally single eg. Decree of Divorce, Death Certificate.

Declare that you are both free to marry.

Provide details of 2 witnesses over the age of 18.

Under the Marriage act 1961 ‘Two persons under the age of 18 cannot marry each other”.
-
Any person under the age of 18 must obtain parent consent and approval of a Court of Law
