Legalities

In accordance with the Australian Marriage Act 1961, you need to:

 

  • Lodge a Notice of intended Marriage (NOIM) with your celebrant no more than 18 months and no less than one month and one day before the wedding date.

  • Provide evidence of age (birth certificate or passport) to show you are over the age of 18 and legally able to consent to marriage.

  • If previously married, provide evidence that you are now legally single eg. Decree of Divorce, Death Certificate.

  • Declare that you are both free to marry.

  • Provide details of 2 witnesses over the age of 18.

  • Under the Marriage act 1961 ‘Two persons under the age of 18 cannot marry each other”.

  • Any person under the age of 18 must obtain parent consent and approval of a Court of Law
